Celebrities including Tania Bryer, Tamara Beckwith and Donna Air gathered at the
Claridge's Hotel on 23 March to present the winners with their 2005 Parent Friendly Awards.
This January/February parents nationwide had their say about, amongst others, the UK's most
parent friendly supermarket, restaurant, holiday provider and bank/building society. The
2005 ceremony also included the new Tommy's Angel award presented to an individual whom
deserves recognition for providing extra support through a parenting-related problem or
pregnancy complications such as miscarriage, premature birth or stillbirth.
The Parent Friendly Awards are voted each year by parents and parents-to-be across the
UK. One of Tommy's aims is to make life less stressful for parents and parents-to-be and
we are proud to be able to uncover the organisations giving parents with young children a
helping hand. There's still work to be done to make Britain even more parent friendly but
so far, we have witnessed vast improvements such as wider checkouts, more baby feeding and
rest areas for mum and dad, greater access facilities and higher levels of service for
parents with young children. We like to think that we are setting examples of best
practice which will encourage more companies to follow suit.
