Pubs reach for the stars

Pubs throughout the country were festooned with showbiz glitz and glamour, as they took up the challenge to reach for the stars, in The Ultimate Showbiz Quiz.

Monday 27 January 2003 was a star-studded night, as landlords aimed to win the coveted award of top fundraiser for Tommy's, while teams battled it out to prove they were the biggest showbiz experts.

Congratulations to Jenny and Denis Harding Landlord and Lady at The Orange Tree in Richmond, who won Best Fundraising Landlord. Their pub was especially glamorous on the night, with a visit from dazzling TV presenter Kirsty Gallagher, a team from sky sports and an amazing sports themed raffle.

The pub raised over £600 towards Tommy' vital work and won them a star for the night trip to London; enjoying dinner at an exclusive restaurant, before being whisked away to see My Fair Lady in a chauffeur-driven limousine. As the evening ends, they can retire in five-star luxury at the Grange City Hotel.

And congratulations also to Liz Cullen's team from The Eastham Ferry Hotel in The Wirral who won the title of Top Showbiz Gossips. Liz and her team have won a fantastic holiday for four in the sun, kindly donated by Markwarner Holidays, to relax from the pressure of fame!

With over 300 pubs taking part, from Greene King Young's Burtonwood and more, the evening proved to be a night to rival the Oscars.
